Appearing on two blogs in one week is a record for us. Here’s Rebecca Giblin’s account of her week at Writing into the Dark and, so importantly for me, a reminder of how easy it is to take all this beauty for granted. I’ve only lived here for a year and a half and yet, already, all this beauty has become normal.
I remember a time when even the drive to Tesco was punctuated with, ‘Oh my God, a kite,’ or ‘Wow, can you see those hills in the distance?’ We barely acknowledge kites now although we do still go to Bellymack Farm to see the spectacle of hundreds of them swooping and feeding at once.
It was a pleasure to host Rebecca – and especially for her extra few nights when her partner got Covid so she couldn’t go home: made for a lovely debrief.
“Last week, I was lucky enough to attend a writing retreat run by Write South West Scotland. I pootled along the A75 to Brig o Dee, met fellow writers IN REAL LIFE, ate lots of food, star gazed at Threave, ate more food, swam at Mossyard and, you guessed it, ate more food. (By lunchtime on the second day, I had changed into my baggy jeans).
So far, so good. After four days of listening to amazing writing and a chance to share a bit of mine*, I was planning to pootle back along the A75 and be home well before Saturday lunchtime. But dastardly covid had other ideas.….”
