Writing Women’s Fiction with Emma Robinson

Emma Robinson is a USA Today Bestselling author of fourteen novels which focus on the power of family and friendship in the most challenging circumstances. We are thrilled to have her join Write South West Scotland’s team of brilliant teachers.

In these sessions, we will explore the importance of the heroine’s internal journey and how it can be used to structure and develop compelling narratives. Character work will focus on creating protagonists who are flawed and fallible, but capable of growth and greatness, and we’ll learn how to make our characters believable by uncovering the psychological and emotional wounds which brought them to this point in their lives.

With an eye on the commercial market, Emma will also lead you through the process of writing the all-important ‘hooky’ opening chapter and will share techniques for writing emotion that will impact your reader and leave your story in their heart long after they’ve closed the book.

The course includes all food, drinks, and snacks from Monday afternoon until Saturday after breakfast. Our catering is vegetarian, unless you have other dietary requirements, and indulgent – we find that feeding both body and mind is essential for creativity.

All our rooms are single occupancy (except one that has facility to share if two people want to do that). The retreat is easily accessed by road or by public transport and there will be optional walks out into our incredible surroundings, which you can use to relax and soak in the sights or as a plot walk to ask questions of Emma or Anstey.

This course is limited to seven participants, giving you time to stretch your creative wings and mine both Emma and Anstey for their experience as internationally best-selling authors.
