Write South West Scotland is a writing retreat in Bridge of Dee, Dumfries and Galloway in the UNESCO Galloway & Southern Ayrshire Biosphere. The bridge – Scotland’s only rubble-filled bridge, built in 1720 – is less than a minute’s walk from the house. Down at the river you will see red squirrels, deer, the local heron, red kites, otters, osprey, and so many rooks that they look like fruit in the trees.
Our Accommodation
The retreat has been completly refurbished with writers in mind. Each room has a desk and chair, and there are extra plug sockets for laptops and phones in every room….

From the wilderness of the open hills to the Dark Skies of the Galloway Forest or windswept coastline, the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere has many places to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life……

We encourage our visitors to look at public transport when they visit us. The Bridge of Dee bus stop is right outside the kitchen window…..
