Our Accommodation
The retreat has been completely refurbished with writers in mind….
Each room has a desk and chair, and there are extra plug sockets for laptops and phones in every room. Our lamps are bright enough to read by, and we made sure there was a bath to read in.
We have two sitting rooms so that you can peel away and read quietly if you don’t want to be with your main group. Each sitting room has a desk and chair too.
‘The writing room’ where all our group sessions are held.
There is facility – if two writer chums book the retreat together – to have two ‘suites’ (each comprising a sitting room, bathroom, and bedroom), and to just get together to cook & eat in the shared kitchen
Our accommodation comprises:
- bedroom one – a king-size bed;
- bedroom two – a double bed;
- bedroom three – a twin room with a divider part-way across the room
- The newly fitted bathrooms (one with bath/shower, one with walk-in shower) are shared by the three bedrooms.
- A large kitchen/diner with washer/dryer, dishwasher, and fridge-freezer.
Our oak kitchen table is large enough to write at – alone or with your friends – or to meet at during the day to discuss your works-in-progress.
There is a large sitting room and a study with a large L-shaped sofa if you want to be on your own with a book (yours or someone else’s).
The garden has a rotary dryer, table & chairs, and a barbecue.
Extra accommodation for taught courses and larger groups:
For larger groups, we join forces with Maggie and Eric at Bridge of Dee Station which is across the A75 from our house (less than two minutes’ walk).
They offer two beautiful en-suite rooms and an extraordinary 1957 railway carriage, converted to hold two amazing en-suite rooms and fitted into the landscape of the old Dumfries to Stranraer railway line that their house was built for.
We also have a glorious welcome at our ‘back up room’ with Esther and Iain, down at The Haven – a local B&B with unique views (their garden provides the only views of the bridge from river-level) and fabulous hosts.
We are located on the Threave Estate walks, taking you straight into stunning traffic-free walks and runs around the Threave Estate or into Castle Douglas itself. You are always welcome to join Anstey and our little dog, Pen, on a plot-walk. We are only next door.
